A "gang" simply refers to the number of switch rockers housed in a single face plate. A two-gang switch contains two independent switches side by side, each controlling a separate circuit — for example, the ceiling light and the wall lamp in the same room, or the indoor light and an exterior spotlight above a holiday-rental entrance. The whole assembly is wired into one back box (flush or surface-mounted) in the wall.

Either way, each gang of the switch receives its own switched Live feed out to its light fitting, plus a common Live in. The Neutral and Earth typically do not pass through the switch itself.

Brown/red conductors carry Live; any grey or unsleeved earth conductors get a green-yellow sleeve fitted before reconnection.

    Connect the Live supply to the common terminals

    Each gang has a Common (COM) terminal. The incoming Live (brown) is connected to the COM of the first gang, and a short link wire (a "bridge" or "jumper") carries Live across to the COM of the second gang — or a separate incoming Live is run to each COM if the cables allow. This ensures both switches are permanently energised and ready to switch.

    Connect the switched-Live outputs to the light fittings

    Each gang has one output terminal (often marked L1 on a one-way switch, or L1 and L2 on a two-way switch). The switched-Live cable going up to the first light connects to the L1 terminal of gang one; the cable for the second light connects to L1 of gang two. In a standard one-way installation, no connection is made to L2. The Neutral and Earth for each light are handled at the ceiling rose or junction box, not at the switch.

    Test, label, and reinstate

    Before the face plate is refitted, the electrician visually checks all terminations are tight and no copper is exposed outside a terminal. The circuit breaker is restored and each switch is tested independently — toggling one rocker should affect only its own light. Once confirmed, the face plate is screwed flush, and (in any rental or commercial property) the updated circuit is noted on the distribution board schedule as required by Greek electrical installation regulations (ELOT HD 384).
